Grow with high contrast flowering Magical Gold Forsythia, (Forsythia x intermedia 'Kolgold'), Scarlet Pearl Snowberry, (Symphoricarpos 'Scarlet Pearl') and Cole's Compact Burning Bush, (Euonymus alatus 'Cole's Compact').

Design Styles: No pollinator is needed to enjoy the spectacular berries of this Holly. Its foliage makes a perfect backdrop for light-colored plants. Plant as single specimen (gorgeous under snowfall) or line it up for a reliably dense hedge. Use to soften unsightly corners of fences or buildings, or plant at the back of shrub and perennial borders for reliable year-round foliage. Leave unsheared to attain full height and width for screens or to disguise utilities.

Care Information

Follow a regular watering schedule during the first growing season to establish a deep, extensive root system. Feed with a general purpose fertilizer before new growth begins in spring. For a tidy, neat appearance, shear annually to shape.

Background Information

History: This is a unique combination of both male and female plants are meservae hybrids. This group of improved hybrids was derived from crosses between cold hardy prostrate Ilex rugosa and the popular English holly, Ilex aquifolium. The series was developed by Mrs. F. Leighton Meservae of St. James, New York with repeated crossing during a breeding stint in the 1960s.
