    Thrives in average to very lean, well-drained soils with an acidic pH. Follow a regular watering schedule during the first two or three growing seasons to establish a deep extensive root system. Tolerates some drought, once established. Prefers unimproved soils; avoid over-fertilizing. May be lightly pruned after flowering.Pruning time: winter after flowering.

Both are best with shelter from the harshest late afternoon sun. This shade could be provided by a structure, a wall, larger plants or  tree(s).
