Care Information
Follow a regular watering schedule during the first growing season to establish a deep, extensive root system. Watering can be reduced after establishment. Feed with a general purpose fertilizer before new growth begins in spring. Pruning time: winter.
Design Ideas
This is an elegant but tough tree for the hot, sunny garden. With no fruit to drop, it can be used near walkways, drives or pools, or within the garden without any mess. A wonderful addition to a Mediterranean style garden or alongside a modern architecture home or office.
Companion Plants
A Mediterranean inspired design would combine Majestic Beauty with Rosemary, Lavender, Rock Rose, Fig, Grape, Pomegranate, Sea Lavender, Jerusalem Sage, Chaste Tree and Italian Cypress. For a modern look, combine with the architectural look of New Zealand Flax, Yucca, Cordyline, Agava and a variety of other tender succulents.
History

O. europaea is specific to the coastal areas of the eastern Mediterranean and has been in cultivation since the 3rd Century B.C. for its oil and fruit. Majestic Beauty was discovered by Julian Herman in 1978 in Irvine, CA and is a sport of O. europaea.Olive branches and leaves have long been a symbol of benediction, purification, abundance, glory and peace. It was the Olive branch that crowned athletes and kings in ancient Greece, some even being found in King Tut's tomb. The oil of the Olive has been used throughout history in sacred lamps and religious ceremonies. It was olive oil that was burned as the eternal flame in the first Olympic games. Scientist have dated some fruit bearing Olive trees throughout the Mediterranean region to be 1600 to 3000 years old. The rise in the use of Olive trees in the home landscape spurred the introduction of smaller stature, fruitless Olives like Majestic
