    This cultivar was developed by Monrovia and introduced in 1996. Its parent species originates in the eastern U.S. from Canada to Alabama. There are over fifty natural variations of this tree known in the wild, which have been selected in forms from large trees to low shrubs.
    This tree was used as a medicinal by Native Americans within its range.
