Design Ideas
Makes an outstanding focal point in western native gardens and desert landscapes. Equally effective in postmodern compositions and Mediterranean plantings. Night pollinated flowers are exceptional under moonlight. Suited to containers.
Companion Plants
For Mediterranean gardens, group with Brilliancy Rock Rose, (Cistus x 'Brilliancy') and Arp Rosemary, (Rosmarinus officinalis 'Arp'). In Southwestern gardens use Cimmaron Texas Ranger, (Leophyllum zygophyllum 'Cimarron') and Don Mario Bougainvillea, (Bougainvillea 'Monio').
History
This yucca is native to a large range across the southern United States. References debate whether this species and Y.flaccida may be the same plant with only minor differences. Yuccas were named from the aboriginal title for these plants in their range. Virtually all forty species of yucca are native to the Americas, primarily in the U.S. and Mexico. They are pollinated at night by a specific moth.
