Its name comes from the Spanish city of Valencia, widely known for its excellent orange trees. The Valencia Orange was widely planted by the Irvine Company in Southern California which likely led to the naming of Orange County. The Campbell variety was a seedling found in the Earl Campbell orchard near Santa Ana, Ca in 1942.
