This magnificent new extremely hardy selection adds sensational tropical flair to landscape or container. New foliage emerges soft green and ages to a deep silvery green on yellow-green petioles. A truly stunning, vigorous, evergreen shrub with strong branching and thick, arching stems forming from the base. Greenish white umbels produce showy purple fruit.
LIGHT: Full sun, Partial sun
WATER: Water when top 2 inches of soil is dry.
SIZE: Moderately fast growing; reaches 15 ft. tall and wide.

Hinkley from the slopes of the highest mountain in Taiwan in 1999. The Winged Phoenix™ cultivar is a 2018 Monrovia introduction; the product of a breeding program under the direction of Rick Wells. The new variety was selected among a planting of seedlings of Schefflera taiwaniana in May 2011 and subsequently propagated by tissue culture. U.S. Plant Patent #30,465 was issued on April 30, 2019. The species was later determined to be Heptapleurum taiwaniana. |
