Elegant bloom spikes are over three feet tall, displaying masses of bright red flowers throughout summer, continuing into fall in mild climates. Provide a lean and well drained soil. After planting, requires little to no fertilization; heavy feeding may result in floppy bloom spikes. Follow a regular watering schedule during the first growing season to establish a deep, extensive root system. Watering can be reduced after establishment. Cut back spent flower stems to encourage a more spectacular repeat bloom.
