Grow it down front in the perennial border as an edging or as a transition plant to neaten irregular lawn edges. Particularly lovely for adding late-summer color to foundation planting. Potentilla is a most resilient plant for spicing up country or cottage garden landscapes.
Flower Color White
Foliage Color Green
Companion Plants Spirea (Spiraea); Switch Grass (Panicum); Sedum (Sedum); Euonymus (Euonymus); Maiden Grass (Miscanthus)
CARE
Care Thrives in light, well-drained, sandy soils. Water deeply and regularly during the first growing season to establish an extensive root system. Once established, reduce frequency; tolerates moderate dry spells. Fertilize before new growth begins in spring. For a tidy appearance, prune lightly after flowering.
HISTORY
Lore Potentilla is known in the apothecary world for its very "potent" astringent qualities. This led to its use in many old herbals as an antibacterial agent for cures of thrush and dysentery. It s old European name, cinquefoil or five fingers describes the five petal flower. It was used in spells, most notably love potions.
