OVERVIEW
Description An easy to grow, extremely cold hardy, ornamental grass for sunny to shaded garden beds and woodland settings. It forms a neat, petite clump of fine-textured foliage, topped by wands of decorative seed plumes in late summer. Ideal for smaller gardens and containers, and highly effective planted in mass. Excellent for bird habitat and wildlife gardens. Evergreen.

CARE
Care Thrives in evenly moist, slightly acidic soil. Water regularly during the first growing season to establish a deep extensive root system. In northern climates, mulch to protect in winter; leave foliage in place. Prune by 2/3 in spring. May be divided in spring or early fall.

Lore The genus Deschampsia is a widely distributed native grass, found in many arctic and temperate regions, from sea level to 14,000 ft in the mountains. Habitats can range from coastal ridges, upper tidal marshes, seasonally wet prairies, moist sub-alpine meadows, open forests, and alpine areas above the timber line.
