Ilex crenata 'Compacta'

Dense, rigid, evergreen shrub with charming rounded appearance. Little pruning is necessary to produce or maintain the globular form. In spring, the young stems are purple, adding interest to the landscape. The foliage holds its glossy green color all year. Female plants produce black fruit that hang on throughout the winter. This is the ideal shrub for textural interest in any landscape. Plant in moist, well drained, slightly acid soil. Grows to 6 feet tall and wide.
