Among the most beloved perennials, it bears short spikes of deep, purple blue flowers. Blooms last many weeks in summer, transforming the otherwise compact, shrubby mound of aromatic silvery foliage into an all blue bush. Fragrant leaves and flowers are age old cosmetic and still used today. Prefers porous well drained soil. Essential to the arid Mediterranean style, xeriscapes and cottage gardens. Evergreen subshrub.
