A superb late winter flowering species from western China. The ovate foliage possesses a distinctive and arresting shade of silvery jade while the new growth in spring emerges in tones of burnished red, a color that remains in the petioles of the leaf throughout the year. In mid to late winter, ruby-red spikes appear with flowers opening to soft yellow.
