Design IdeasLow profile and spreading habit make these the ideal filler plants for almost any application in full sun. Use to flesh out the front of the aging shrub or perennial border. Group in irregular combinations or mass as a true groundcover to compound the potent floral color display. Exceptional choice for lining the edge of a walk or driveway and filling the narrow strip that divides front yards. A beautiful choice for banks and slopes as coverage and erosion control. In traditional rose gardens, plant among taller shrub or cutting roses to tidy up the ground plain underneath. Outstanding in white French boxes or very large terra cotta pots. Makes particularly elegant potted patio tree on porch or terrace.
Care Information
Water regularly during the first growing season to establish an extensive root system. In zones 5 and below, winter protection is advised. As a groundcover, space plants 3 ft. apart. Feed with a timed-release rose fertilizer. Cut back by a third in late winter or early spring - no fancy pruning is necessary.

History:
This popular plant is of course a member of the Rosaceae family. The genus Rosa was classified by Linnaeus in the 18th century and today contains over one hundred species, all originating in the Northern Hemisphere. He chose the name after the ancient Latin word for the European species. From the wild species there have evolved thousands of hybrids and forms with many branches in the ancestral tree. This rose is the final product of twenty five years of breeding by the noted German rosarian, Werner Noack. He patented his plants starting in 1979 and officially released the first, R. x 'Noatraum' in 1990 as Flower Carpet PP. #7282. Appleblossom is one of the later introductions by Noack and was patented around 1997.
Lore:
Flower Carpet® Appleblossom is a sport of the original Flower Carpet® Pink, and it has inherited that award-winning rose's unprecedented levels of natural disease-resistance thanks to Noack Rosen - German rose breeders known for their commitment to disease-resistant hybrids. Practically maintenance-free yet extremely floriferous and vigorous plants can produce as many 2000 flowers per year! This shrubby groundcover series of sterile roses includes many colors, all produce a limited number of hips making deadheading unnecessary.
