Dan Hinkley, observed during his travels this very popular cultivar in Japan, noting that it has the best texture of any Nandina that he has seen in cultivation or in nurseries there. Noting that it had never been distributed before in North America, he introduced it to Monrovia, believing in its enormous potential as a landscape shrub.
