History
This novel new intergeneric hybrid is the result of many years of breeding by Charles Valin at the UK breeding company Thompson & Morgan. It originates from a cross between hardy Digitalis purpurea and its tropical relative Isoplexis canariensis from the Canary Islands. Some DNA evidence indicates the genus Isoplexis is likely a member of genus Digitalis. Considering the trade name Digiplexis often appears as a registered trademark, and trademarked names are not considered to be acceptable botanical nomenclature, we are listing its botanical genus as Digitalis.
