It was selected as a seedling resulting from an open pollination of female/seed parent 'Frostproof', and an unknown male/pollen parent that's original objective was to produce early-blooming, double-flowered, cold hardy gardenias with compact habits. Swan Princess™ was selected for its early and prolific production of fully double flowers and abundant rebloom, its upright, densely branched form with dark green foliage, its cold hardiness, and a notable tolerance to drought stress, root diseases. Swan Queen™ is hardy to zone 6b.
