The genus Rosa was classified by Linnaeus in the 18th century and today contains over one hundred species, all originating in the Northern Hemisphere. He chose the name after the ancient Latin word for the European species. From the wild species there have evolved thousands of hybrids and forms with many branches in the ancestral tree. This rose is the final product of twenty five years of breeding by the noted German rosarian, Werner Noack.He patented his plants starting in 1979 and officially released the first, R. x 'Noatraum' in 1990 as Flower Carpet PP. #7282. Appleblossom is one of the later introductions by Noack and was patented around 1997. |
