History
This hibiscus is a hybrid of two unknown cultivated H. rosa-sinensis. Introduced in 1956 by Monrovia as Hibiscus rosa-sinensis 'Fullmoon', it was later assigned the name 'Monoon' when Fullmoon® became a Monrovia registered trademark, as trademarked names are not acceptable in botanical nomenclature. This hibiscus cultivar is also know in the trade as 'Butterball'.
