A 2020 Monrovia exclusive introduction, Guardian® Indigo Arizona Cypress (Cupressus x 'RutCup1') is a licensed cultivar from the University of Georgia Research Foundation (UGARF). 'RutCup1' was seedling selection produced from seeds gathered from an open pollination of C. cashmeriana in Tifton, GA in 2002. 'RutCup1' was selected for its upright growth habit (non-weeping), attractive blue foliage, and resistance to Passalora Needle Blight.
