Viburnum 'PIIVIB-I' originated from an open-pollination of V. 'Nantucket' and through this cultivar, its origins can be traced to Viburnum 'Eskimo' (which is of V. carlcephalum 'Cayuga' and V. utile parentage) and V. macrocephalum f. keteleeri. V. 'PIIVIB-I' was patented by renowned horticulturist Michael A. Dirr in 2013.
