A beautiful, medium sized, cold hardy, specimen tree with a dense, rounded crown and glossy, emerald green foliage that provides brilliant maroon-red fall color. Fan-like leaves are comprised of multiple, lance-shaped, toothy leaflets that are resistant to summer leaf scorch. Showy panicles of yellow flower spikes adorn the branch tips in spring. Deciduous.
Provide deep, well-drained soil; adaptable to a variety of soil types. Water deeply, regularly during the first few growing seasons to establish an extensive root system. Once established, reduce frequency; tolerates moderate periodic drought. Fertilize in early spring. Prune to remove dead or damaged branches in winter.
History
'Autumn Splendor' is University of Minnesota introduction, with A. flava, A. pavia, and A. x glabra parentage.
