History | Colorita® is an introduction from the plant breeding programs of Royal Van Zanten in the Netherlands. The series features large buds that unfold into brightly colored flowers with bold markings. These exceptional bloomers perform all summer long in most regions. This hybrid Alstroemeria is the result of a cross-pollination made in June 2008, as part of a controlled breeding program in Rijsenhout, The Netherlands. It was assigned and introduced by Van Zanten Plants B.V., and received U.S. Plant Patent number 25,588 in May 2015. |
Lore | Peruvian lilies are native to the rich soils of the mountain regions of South America, in Chile and Brazil. The introduction of the alstroemeria to Europe has been credited to 18th century botanist, Claus von Alstroemer of Sweden, hence the botanical name. Alstroemeria make excellent cut flowers, and are symbolic of friendship and devotion--making them ideal for wedding bouquets. |
