Description Large, intense coral-rose-colored, 6-inch wide, bowl-shaped, semi-double flowers on sturdy, upright stems. Bloom color softens as they age, creating a simultaneous bouquet of colors ranging from deep French rose to pale peachy pink. Attractive glossy, dark green, dissected foliage remains attractive through summer and fall. An herbaceous perennial. This herbaceous peony needs winter chill to set buds. It will not flower in zones 9 - 11.

History American Peony Society's has recognized 'Cytherea' as an exceptional Peony; it has was named APS's 1980 Gold Medal winner and was the recipient of their 2009 Award of Landscape Merit. A stunning bowl-shaped cultivar introduced in the mid-20th century. 'Cytherea' is a mid-early season bloomer' blooms are intermittent and will last for 7 to 10 days, meaning the plant will produce blooms over a range of time, not all at once; as older blooms color lightens to nearly white, newly forming buds and opening blooms continue to introduce the darker range of color. 'Cytherea' parentage: Lactiflora cvr. x lobata.
