This barberry plant was created in 1978 by artificial pollination of two dwarf shrubs, Berberis thunbergii 'Atropurpurea Nana' and Berberis thunbergii 'Bogozam' Bonanza Gold (PP 8,215). It was selected out of all of the seedlings in 1980 and patented and introduced in 2006, twenty-eight years after the cross was made. Golden Ruby® Barberry has been recently been recognized by the Elisabeth C. Miller Botanical Gardens, as part of The Great Plant Picks program. |
