| History | Callistemon viminalis is native to Queensland, Australia and New South Wales, often found at the edge of creeks and streams, thought it has been widely cultivated and also thrives in dry, mediterranean climates. Callistemon v. 'CV01' originated in a controlled crossing of C. viminalis 'Captain Cook' and an unnamed selection in 2005, in Cobbitty, New South Wales, Australia. Seed from the cross was collected, germinated, then transplanted for field-trials in 2006. Initial selection was made in September 2009. Trials continued through 2010, confirming its uniqueness and merits, which include: combination of tall plant height, columnar shape, dense growth habit, and both longer and wider leaves. This cultivar was named 'CV01', and subsequently U.S. plant patent 24,444 was awarded in May, 2014. It is registered to Graham Brown Horticulture Development Manager and plant breeder at The University of Sydney in partnership with NuFlora. |
