History
Southern Moon® Yedda Hawthorn was selected at Monrovia's research location in Cairo, Georgia from open pollination seedlings received from Dr. Ruter of the University of Georgia. He and Monrovia craftsman Stewart Chandler made this selection together after evaluating the seedlings. Lengthy in-ground trials compared attributes with other cultivars currently in production. Rhaphiolepis umbellata 'RutRhaph1' was selected for its superior traits: dark foliage, exceptional disease resistance and compact habit.
