Which type of Camellia lover are you: Glamorous or Simple?

Passions in the world of Camellia lovers (like the rose and peony worlds, too) seem to fall into two categories.

There are those who crave the glamorous, formal, big, double Camellia varieties with their wedding-dress-like layers and layers of petals. And then there are those who adore the graphic simplicity of a Camellia. Their single petals have an almost wild look to the them. This can be seen in this beautiful garden in Northern California. (Kona, the dog, appears to be a fan of the later!)

Which type of Camellia makes your heart go pitter-patter? Tell us in the comments below!

Is there anyway you can send me only those email rgarding plants suitable for the Sonoran Desert? I like the info you send but I am in Zone 9 near Phoenix, AZ and much I am receiving is about plants that wont survive here! Have been gardening for more than 25 years! Thanks.

I prefer the double Camillas. I have had both though. Love them all.

I enjoy the double camellias but have lately been wondering if their flower heads are too difficult for pollinators to access? It would be nice to add a variety or two that does especially well with them. I do have a large tree-form single called 'Yuletide' that puts on a lovely show just after Christmas.

Hi I live in the Antelope Valley (southern California). My zip code is 93551. Ive tried growing Camelias in the past and havent been successful here yet. The biggest problem Ive had is the flowers fall off the plant. Im wondering what type of irrigation they prefer and do you have a variety you can recommend for my area? Also which side of the house would they prefer? Thanks!

I prefer the Sasanquas for their smaller stature, ability to handle some sun and colorful petal drop. They are well suited to my smaller landscape space. (central Florida zone 9a)

I love both the big, big full ones and the round tight ones.
